F.A.Q

Telehealth

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is the new frontier of convenient, effective healthcare, based on medical evaluation or treatment from a distance. Our aim is to provide the same level of care as physically seeing a doctor in an office, but with less hassle for our patients, and often less expense as well.

Telehealth can be done in a range of ways, by phone, on chat, a written assessment, or even by video conference.  Our HIPAA compliant software enables patients to conveniently speak with their physician using their smartphone or computer, which means no more waiting rooms, delays or long travel times.

Are your telehealth professionals the same level as my regular health providers?

All of our physicians possess the mandatory state medical licenses, controlled substance licenses and individual state DEA licenses required to treat US based patients.  Telehealth means no compromise on treatment or health outcomes, simply more convenience for you.

Will Peter MD replace my primary care provider?

Peter MD is complementary to your primary care provider, we’re not designed to fully replace them. We also recommend keeping your PCP and other healthcare providers informed about your treatment while using Peter MD services.  We make it easy to share your medical information with your PCP or other healthcare providers, just message our customer support team.

Is it legal to prescribe medication online?

Yes, telehealth technology lets our specialist physicians provide high level care for patients remotely. Every specialist you interact with is licensed to prescribe medicine and treat patients in your state. As of May 11, 2023 the Ryan Haight Act was re-implemented meaning any patient receiving a controlled substance must be seen in person by a Peter MD physician or Peter MD referring physician first.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy

What is testosterone?

Testosterone is a hormone that naturally occurs in both men and women, although men have higher levels of it. Testosterone is produced in the testes, ovaries, and adrenal glands and is derived from cholesterol. Its primary function is to drive development of the male reproductive system but it also plays a role in body hair growth, muscle mass, body fat, voice, and sex drive. In the body, some testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone and estrogen which plays a very important role in mens homeostasis.

What causes low testosterone?

It’s completely normal for men’s testosterone levels to decrease with age. This can be a result of declining testicular function as well as lifestyle factors, like how much exercise you do.

Some men have low testosterone independent of this age-related decline. And while there are many possible causes for low testosterone (alcohol consumption, diabetes, genetic factors, metabolic disorders, medications, etc.), many men never discover what has caused their decline. Low testosterone is a medical condition that should always be treated with the guidance of a healthcare professional.

How do I get assessed for TRT?

As Testosterone Replacement Therapy is a 6 month treatment process there are four key steps to consider:

  • The first step is a health assessment.  Once you complete your online health questionnaire, we will send you a referral for blood work. We do require this blood work to be completed before we book your initial virtual visit with the Peter MD physicians.
  • Then we find your Personalized Plan. When your results are in, we’ll arrange an in-depth video call with a US licensed doctor who will spend time getting to know you, explain your results, and recommend a treatment plan that’s perfect for you.
  • Your personalized Treatment Options. Your meds will be shipped directly and discreetly to your door every 14 weeks via one of our licensed partner pharmacies, so you can focus on feeling your best while we take care of the rest.
  • Follow up care and progress. You will be required to conduct further blood work at 3 months then every 6 months to monitor your progress. Once we receive your blood work results, we will schedule a virtual follow up appointment with one of our providers to discuss ongoing progress and tweaks to your treatment plan.
How do Peter MD supplements compare to other testosterone support products on the market?

There are countless TRT supplements on the market that claim to support men’s healthy testosterone levels.  Many individual ingredients overlap between different products, and not all formulations are exactly the same. Over the counter testosterone supplements do not work in raising free and total testosterone levels. The only way to increase mens testosterone levels is by administering actual bio identical testosterone. This is the most safe and effective way to treat underlying low testosterone or Hypogonadism. Peter MD provides individualized treatment to ensure each patient is treated based on their own biochemistry.

Hair Loss

How do you treat Hair Loss?

Hair loss caused by male pattern baldness can be treated with two safe, effective and FDA-approved formulas; Minoxidil and Finasteride. A quick consultation with our physicians can help determine which treatment plan is right for you. Depending on your condition or location of hair loss, your doctor may recommend one or both medications. Some studies indicate that taking Minoxidil and Finasteride together may be the most effective way to combat hair loss.

What type of hair loss medication do you sell?

Peter MD sells both prescription hair loss treatments and topical products that can be used without a prescription. An online visit with one of our physicians can help determine what’s best for you.

Is Finasteride safe for me?

Is Finasteride safe for me?

Although Finasteride 1mg has helped millions of men around the world with hair loss, it’s not completely safe for everyone.  Finasteride may increase the risk of high-grade prostate cancers and can lower serum prostate-specific antigen. Clinical trials also indicate a small amount of men may experience sexual dysfunction due to Finasteride. Our doctors are on hand to talk over any concerns you might have and can assess whether Finasteride is the right treatment for you.

Is there anyone who can’t take Finasteride?

Finasteride is not approved for use by women, and pregnant women should not even handle Finasteride due to risk of birth defects.  Our doctors are always on hand to discuss any concerns you might have and can assess whether Finasteride is right for you.

Erectile Dysfunction

How do you treat Erectile Dysfunction?

Treatment for E.D has come a long way in the last few decades, with a range of options to suit every man and every issue. Modern oral prescription medications are essentially inhibitors that stop PDE5 from reversing the erection process. Treatment in pill form is effective and easy, with our most commonly prescribed ED treatment Sildenafil 50mg, best known as the active ingredient in Viagra.  Sildenafil works by relaxing blood vessels and improving blood flow to the penis, creating a harder and longer-lasting erection.  Our licensed physicians will recommend a personalized dosage plan for Sildenafil based upon your issues and the information you provide.

What is the difference between Viagra and Sildenafil?

Essentially they are one and the same.  Viagra is the commercial “brand” name, and Sildenafil is the active substance of Viagra.  Generic versions of Sildenafil are also available as a cheaper option but they still require a prescription.  The legendary blue Viagra pill is still popular and potent, but studies show that generics can obtain comparable results with the bonus of lower pricing.

Why do I have to take my blood pressure before I’m approved?

It’s extremely important that you provide blood pressure readings taken in the last 6 months when submitting your medical records. Some ED medications can be harmful if blood pressure is too high or low so understanding this risk is essential.  Most local pharmacies offer free blood pressure readings if you are in need of a checkup.

Can ED be diagnosed by a physician via telehealth?

Yes, in the majority of cases, ED can be accurately diagnosed by a physician based on self-reporting and a patient’s medical history.  Our specialist physicians make their telehealth diagnosis based on the same procedures they would follow at an in person consultation.  You will be asked a series of questions to assess and evaluate your symptoms and your personalized treatment plan will be designed based on the information you provide. Therefore it’s important that all the information you provide us is accurate, current, and truthful so we can design the best program for you.

Our plans start from as little as $29 per month, however the exact cost of your treatment may vary based on the type and amount of medication you receive for your specific health issues. Please visit the page related to your health problem for more information.

Can I cancel my membership at any time?

Yes, you may cancel your membership at any time via the Member Account page. All subscriptions can be canceled at any time, the only exception being our TRT programs which will require at least a 6 month commitment. The individual receiving TRT therapy will have multiple physician consultations to review lab diagnostics and symptoms resolution ratings in the first 6 months for proper optimization. After the initial 6 months, depending on the subscription chosen, you are able to discontinue at anytime.

How do I make Payment?

Peter MD is a subscription based service, allowing us to be the most cost effective men’s wellness clinic in the US.  Payments are auto drafted on the date your selected program is purchased. Our Customer Support team is on hand for any further queries.

Can I claim insurance for Peter MD treatment?
